Unemployment Rate 5.2% In Windsor Last Month

After slipping downwards for the past number of months, Windsor's unemployment rate inched upwards to 5.2% in March.

That's up from 5.1% in February.

In London, the unemployment rate fell to 6% from 6.2%.

The Canadian economy gained 19,400 jobs last month, the bulk of are categorized as self-employed. Despite the gain, the jobless rate crept upwards to 6.7%, up one-tenth of a percentage point, mainly because more people were looking for work.

Statistics Canada says the public sector shed 2,400 jobs, but there were 21,800 factory jobs across the country as manufacturing experienced its biggest month to month gains since 2002.

Ontario's unemployment rate remained steady at 6.3%.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
