UPDATE: Gas Line Struck Near Downtown Windsor

A struck gas line near downtown Windsor has resulted in several evacuations.

Windsor Fire and Rescue say that the gas line was accidentally struck by a backhoe shortly before 4:30pm in the 100 block of Aylmer, not far from Caesars Windsor.

As a precaution, three homes in the area have been evacuated and first responders have closed Aylmer north of Chatham St.

Union Gas spent several hours making repairs and there were no reports of injuries or property damage.

The leak was stopped around 7pm and the evacuated homes were being ventilated, police say.  The area was reopened later Saturday night.
