A Trail 14 Years In The Making

Local cyclists, runners, or just families out for walks can now enjoy a new trail linking the towns of Essex and Amherstburg.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority is celebrating the official opening of the 22 km Cypher Systems Group Greenway.

The idea for the project started back in 2003 when an abandoned rail line was donated to the Essex Region Conservation Foundation.

In 2012, the Foundation then launched it's TrailON! campaign, which raised over $1-million for the trail's development. That includes contributions from both towns, Caesars Windsor, Cypher Sytems Group and the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.

The Cypher Systems Group Greenway runs from the centre of the Town of Essex to Amherstburg, and intersects with the existing Chrysler Canada Greenway in McGregor.
