Regional Waste Diversion Going The Wrong Way

An Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority report shows that more trash ended up in the regional landfill last year than in 2015.

The report indicates the overall waste diversion rate decreased from 37.5% in 2015 to 35% in 2016.

Manager of Waste Diversion Cameron Wright says the residential recycling tonnage collected curbside increased from 26,768 tonnes in 2015 to 26,957 tonnes in 2016.

He also says organic residential yard waste last year went down 14% from 2015.
