UPDATE: Extensive Damage In Amherstburg House Fire

Damage following a house fire in Amherstburg is pegged at around $350,000.

The fire started after 7am Tuesday morning at 170 Gore St.  The family that lives there was alerted by a smoke alarm and were able to make it out of the home before firefighters arrived.

Fire officials say the blaze originated in main floor laundry room and extended throughout the building. The blaze resulted in heavy smoke in the area and caused a power outage felt across the neighbourhood. Essex Powerlines says all power was restored by noon. Three neighbouring homes also sustained exterior heat damage.

Due to the extensive damage, investigators were unable to determine the cause of the fire.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
