UPDATE: SIU Investigating Arrest Of Robbery Suspect

Ontario's police watchdog is investigating after a suspect in the shotgun robbery of a Windsor pawn shop suffered dog bites during his arrest.

The Windsor Police Service says on June 5 at around 1pm, a man entered the pawn shop on Tecumseh Rd. E between Jefferson Blvd. and Lauzon Pkwy. and pulled out a shotgun. He then went behind the store counter and loaded a bag with a quantity of jewelry.

Police were able to identify a suspect, and on Friday, officers surrounded a home on Southdale Dr. to make an arrest, but came up empty.

Shortly after 12am on Sunday, police learned the suspect was at a home on Tuscarora St. at McDougall St.  After hours of attempting to negotiate with the man, officers entered the home at 5:30am and the suspect was arrested.

The province's Special Investigations Unit is currently investigating the arrest, as it says the suspect suffered dog bite injuries during the arrest was taken to hospital for treatment.

The 28-year-old suspect has been charged with robbery, escaping lawful custody and disguise with intent.
