House Fire Tackled Near Downtown

A house fire south of downtown Windsor has displaced eight people.

Windsor Fire and Rescue says the fire broke out around 10:30am Sunday at a home in the 1000 block of Pelissier. The trouble began in a basement unit and left the entire structure filled with smoke.

All those in the building got out safely but the damage has resulted in eight people looking for a place to stay. One person was treated on the spot for smoke inhalation but did not require a hospital trip.

Fire officials say the fire was caused by accidental careless smoking in the basement unit. Damage is estimated at roughly $150,000.

An investigator was on scene Sunday afternoon trying to determine what happened.
