Changes To Off-Street Parking In BIAs

The planning committee of Windsor City Council approved interim control bylaws for off-street parking areas in commercial districts.

The bylaws encourage off street parking behind commercial buildings, and prohibits the demolition of buildings on main streets for parking.

"It will address the primary issue, which is appropriate development of off-street parking and not negatively impacting buildings or streetscaping," says Councillor and committee Chair Bill Marra.

Marra says there are good examples of off-street parking behind commercial buildings in the Erie St. BIA and the Ottawa Street BIA.

It's recommended administration come back with a report and possible amendments within 18 months of the bylaws going into effect. The interim control bylaws still need approval by Windsor City Council before they can be implemented.
