Lake Levels Cause Damage At Holiday Beach

The Essex Region Conservation Authority blames high lake levels for damage along the shoreline at Holiday Beach in Amherstburg.

The high water level has limited the beachfront and, in some cases downed trees.

"We've experienced this type of erosion before when lake levels were high in 1986," says Director of Watershed Management Tim Byrne. "Once the lake levels recede, we do expect that natural processes will eventually allow the beach to be restored."

Even though there is not a lot of beach to sit on right now, the hiking trails are open, along with the Hawk Tower. Visitors can also go fishing at the pond.

Director of Conservation Services Kevin Money says the conservation authority is investigating its options for the beach, including beach nourishment and other shoreline protection infrastructure.
