Bad Behaviour In Essex Chambers

Essex Town Councillor Randy Voakes wants something done to help control the behaviour of visitors to council chambers.

He says there have been physical and verbal outbursts in the gallery, and council has a responsibility to protect people coming to meetings.

Voakes wants a new policy laying out consequences for future incidents.

"It would be unconfusing, and it would direct. If any tax payers, any constituents attending a council meeting, confront any other tax payer in any physical way, you would never ever, ever find yourself in those council chambers, ever again," says Voakes.

The notice of motion will go to council Monday night, along with two others from Voakes.

He would also like council to reconsider the motion that docked him two months pay because of the integrity commissioners report brought forward at the last council meeting.

Voakes has also put forward a motion to move the historic caboose from the train station to Main St. to be used as a tourist information centre.
