Roofer Fined In Worker Death

A Windsor roofing company has been fined $90,000 after a young worker fell from a roof and died.

In December of 2015, the young worker was taking old shingles off a roof on Menard St. in Windsor when he fell to the ground. He was hospitalized for six months but never regained consciousness and passed away.

In July 2017, Dayus Roofing pleaded guilty to the offence of failing, as an employer, to ensure all safety measures were being followed.

An investigation determined that safety equipment consisting of harnesses, safety lines, and anchor points were provided to all employees as well as appropriate training. However, at the time of the fall the roofer did not attach his harness to the safety lines.
