Dangerous Driving Leads To Firearm Charges

A man from the Toronto area is facing multiple charges, including firearm charges after allegedly attempting to evade a traffic stop by Windsor police.

Windsor police first saw a vehicle on the EC Row Expy. going 126 km/hr before it got off at Huron Church Rd. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but it took off. Police did not pursue due to public safety reasons.

A short time later, the vehicle was involved in a collision in a parking lot on Huron Church Rd. and Totten St. As officers approached the vehicle, witnesses told them the driver got into a mini van that was fleeing the scene.

Police stopped the van and the man tried to take off out of the passenger side. He was arrested and police searched the black vehicle involved in the crash. A loaded handgun was found on the floor.

An 18-year-old from the GTA is charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an collision, possession of a firearm without a licence, and careless storage of a firearm.

The man driving the mini-van, a 43-year-old from Windsor, is also facing charges of accessory after the fact.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
