Conservation Authority Issues Water Safety Warning

The Essex Region Conservation Authority says strong winds raise the risk of nearshore erosion along the shore of Lake Erie.

It says waves could top breakwalls, possibly causing damage on the west side of Point Pelee National Park, Leamington, Kingsville, Essex, and the west and south shore of Pelee Island.

The authority says waves topping breakwalls can be extremely dangerous so it is advising residents to keep children, pets, and livestock away from flowing water, standing water, and breakwalls.

Winds are expected to come out of the west/southwest Tuesday with speeds of up to 45 km/hr, and gusts up to 55 km/hr.
