The $30-million addition to Essex Hall at the University of Windsor is on track for completion in April 2018.
The university celebrated the "topping off" ceremony on Wednesday by lifting the final steel beam in the construction project.
"Things are moving along as you can see and they're starting the framing and putting the HVAC in now and it will start to take shape a lot more over the next couple of months," says University President Alan Wildeman.
Wildeman says the 46,000 sq ft addition will house new highly anticipated science research labs.
"This is really going to create brand new science research facilities that we've been in desperate need of for a long time. Essex Hall, as everybody knows, is very dated," says Wildeman.
The open concept labs on each floor of the addition will be devoted to research in health, nano-technology and physics.
