A local chapter of Habitat for Humanity Canada is marking a milestone.
Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex's ReStore is reporting gross sales in excess of $1-million for the first time ever. The ReStore accepts donations of building materials from homes and resells them with the proceeds going to help fund the organization's projects.
Executive Director Fiona Coughlin says their mission would not be possible without the sales generated by the ReStore.
“Without our ReStores, building homes would not be possible," Coughlin says in a news release. "The operation of the ReStores also means that 100% of donated funds go directly toward building homes in our community. Your support of the ReStore will allow us to build all across Essex County."
Coughlin says the support means more new homes will be built across Windsor-Essex.
"We have builds planned in Leamington, Kingsville, Windsor, and even Stoney Point," says Coughlin.
To mark the milestone, Habitat for Humanity is donating 16,000 boxes of cake mix to local support agencies such as the Goodfellows, the Downtown Mission, and the Unemployed Help Centre. Cake mix is also being donated to schools, churches, and organizations that may be planning fundraising projects.
“Through Habitat for Humanity, home ownership has been made a reality for 62 families in Windsor-Essex," says Coughlin. "Our supporters, families, volunteers, and donors are invited to pick up a box of cake mix and celebrate homeownership with us."
Cake mix can be picked up at the Windsor ReStore at 3064 Devon Dr, or in Leamington at 1 Iroquois Rd. Unit 2.
