Potentially Explosive Material Stolen With Vehicle

Windsor police are investigating after a vehicle was stolen that contained a potentially explosive material.

Sometime between Saturday, November 11 at 4pm and Sunday, November 12 at 10:30am, a Toyota Rav4 was stolen from an apartment building parking garage on Riverside Dr. near Goyeau St.

The vehicle contained ten half-pound containers of unmixed tannerite. Tannerite is a product often used in firearm target practice. It is not explosive or flammable on its own, but when mixed with other agents it can cause an explosion that can only be triggered by a high powered projectile.

Police located the unoccupied vehicle on Windsor Ave. on Wednesday November 15, but the tannerite was not inside.

Officers from our Property Crimes Unit are actively investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor Police Service at 519-255-6700 ext. 4350 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477.
