UPDATE: House Fire in Amherstburg Costs $20,000

Amherstburg fire officials say a house fire cost $20,000 in damage.

The blaze broke out shortly after 4:30 Sunday afternoon in the 8500 block of Howard Ave near South Side Rd.

The blaze was knocked down after about an hour and firefighters remained on scene to check for hot spots and fire extensions. The effort to put out the fire was undertaken by two fire companies.

Howard Ave was closed between South Side Rd and County Rd 20 but was reopened around 6:30pm.

Fire officials say the whole thing began in an upstairs bedroom, when a power bar overheated and set fire to clothing in the bedroom.

There were no injuries.
