UPDATE: House Fire Starts In Basement

Damage is pegged at around $150,000 after a fire broke out in a single storey home in Amherstburg.

The Amherstburg fire department reported the blaze at a home on Mclellan Ave. near Higgins Cres. around 6pm on Tuesday. Fire officials say the blaze started in a basement crawl space and was contained to small area of the basement. There was heavy smoke showing when firefighters arrived, which caused damage throughout the home.

No injuries have been reported at this time. It is unknown if anyone was home at the time of the fire.

Fire officials say they were unable to determine the cause of the blaze.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
