More Canine Flu Confirmed

There are now seven confirmed cases of canine influenza in Essex County.

The virus made its way to the area in two dogs that were adopted from South Korea. Five other dogs that were in close contact with the affected dogs have now also tested positive for the virus.

All of the exposed dogs are being confined by their owners to prevent further spread.

Canine influenza is highly contagious, however, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit says most dogs that develop influenza do not get seriously ill.

The health unit says there is no known risk to humans however there is some concern that the canine virus could mix with the human virus and cause some potential problems.
