Off-Duty Cop Nabs Break And Enter Suspect

An off-duty police officer caught a lucky break when he spotted a suspicious man in the Walkerville area.

The Windsor Police Service says on Tuesday around 2:15am, the officer saw the man acting suspiciously near the door of a residence on Lincoln Rd. near Somme Ave.  The officer identified himself and after a brief conversation told the man that he was under arrest.  The man tried to run from the officer, but he was arrested after a short foot chase.

The off-duty cop then contacted his fellow officers who responded to the scene and discovered footprints matching the suspect's shoes leading to and from numerous houses in the area.

During the arrest, officers seized stolen property that included multiple GPS units, cologne, and loose change. The man was also wanted for the use of credit cards that were stolen from a vehicle back in September of 2017.

As a result, a 36-year-old Windsor man is charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, use of stolen credit card and prowling at night.
