WESPY's To Honour Gymnasts For First Time

The Windsor Essex Sports Persons of the Year awards is adding gymnastics for the first time in 13 years.

To celebrate the addition they've asked Olympic gold medalist gymnast Nadia Comaneci to be the guest speaker at the awards show.

"She's just been a great ambassador for her sport and for sports in general so again to keep freshening up, we got our first international athlete to come to the WESPYs," says Domenic Papa, founder of the WESPYs.

Robert Stanescu, owner of Alpha Gymnastics, says its important for local athletes to be included in the awards.

"There's a few thousand of athletes within Windsor that already do gymnastics so with WESPY being on board now and gymnastics being a part of it I think it's going to be even better and we're going to get even more kids," says Stanescu.

The 13th Annual WESPY awards will be held March 20, 2018 at the Caboto Club. Tickets are on sale now.
