Point Pelee National Park Open Again

Parks Canada has reopened Point Pelee National Park to visitors again after a successful deer cull.

The park, near Leamington, shut down for two weeks earlier this month so park officials and members of the Caldwell First Nation could cull a booming population of deer.

A census, taken just before Christmas, showed 103 deer living in the park, far more than the 30 the ecosystem can handle.

Earlier this month, parks officials attributed the rising population to last winter's mild weather and a lack of natural predators in the park.
