19 Surgeries Cancelled At Windsor Regional Hospital

So far, Windsor Regional Hospital says it has had to postpone 19 surgeries over the past two weeks because of a surge in patients at its emergency departments.

Of them, 11 have been rescheduled over the next month and a half. A release from the hospital says the rest will be rescheduled soon.

The hospital started to experience capacity problems at the beginning of the year when more patients suffering flu-like symptoms began flooding the emergency rooms at the Ouellette and Met campuses.

As of Wednesday morning, the Met Campus was at 107% capacity with two patients in the emergency room waiting for a bed.

At the Ouellette Campus, capacity is below the 100% mark for the first time in weeks, but it too has two patients waiting to be placed.

Visitors are reminded to stay away from the hospital if they are feeling ill and go to a clinic instead unless their symptoms are severe.
