High Temperatures And Rain Could Cause Flooding

The Essex Region Conservation Authority is warning area residents about the possibility of flooding with temperatures above zero expected over the next few days.

In addition, 10 mm to 15 mm of rain is in the forecast on Thursday. Runoff generated from the snow melt and rain has the potential to cause flooding throughout the entire region especially in low lying areas.

The authority is also warning residents who live around open waterways. Officials say runoff entering and flowing through these open waterways has a high probability of causing the ice to break up and start to flow. Flowing ice within open waterways can create ice blockages at bridges and culverts resulting in flooding of the low lying areas adjacent to the waterways.

They are asking residents to check their properties for catch basin location and other drainage areas to make sure the area is free of debris.
