Walk Supporting Downtown Mission

Almost 200 people will be participating in this year's Coldest Night of the Year walk in support of the Downtown Mission.

The walkers will leave from the Downtown Mission's Victoria Ave. location around 5:15 Saturday night and take a 2 km, 5 km, or 10 km route throughout the downtown core.

The aim of the walk to to raise money for the hungry and homeless while giving participants a taste of what it is like to be homeless and cold in the middle of winter. Temperatures are expected to stay steady Saturday around plus 4 C however periods of rain are expected.

So far registrants have raised $29,000 for the mission, last year around $23,000 was raised through the walk.

Following the walk registrants will head back to the Downtown Mission for a chili dinner.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
