UPDATE: Basement Fire Tackled in Windsor

A basement fire in Windsor has caused $40,000 in damage.

Windsor Fire and Rescue says the fire started shortly before 10pm Saturday. Firefighters were called to a home on Kenora St near Mark Ave in the South Cameron neighbourhood on a report of a fire in the basement of the house.

When crews arrived, everyone was already out of the house, according to Windsor Fire.

The fire was quickly brought under control within a half hour. Crews were on scene venting the structure and checking for hot spots.

There were no reports of injuries. The fire was deemed an accident.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
