UPDATE: Man Rescued After Falling Through Ice On Lake Erie

One man is in the hospital after falling through the ice on Lake Erie in Leamington.

Leamington Fire Services says on Tuesday around 6:30pm, emergency crews were called to Point Pelee Dr. near Mersea Rd. 12 by two young women who had stopped their car to take a picture of the sunset and heard a man in the water call for help.

The man was able to get out of the water on his own, but couldn't walk and had to be taken to shore by police.

The Ontario Provincial Police say the 58-year-old man from Leamington fell in about 30 ft. from the shore.

The man has since been taken to the hospital and was treated for hyperthermia.
