Flood Possible With Rain, Snow Forecasted

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for the region with 20 mm to 25 mm of rain in the forecast Thursday.

The authority says the already wet ground conditions plus the rainfall could result in standing water in low lying areas throughout the Essex region.

In addition, the rain is expected to turn to snow early Thursday evening with possible accumulations between 5 cm and 10 cm. The accumulated snow could melt Friday, increasing the potential for standing water.

Waterways in the region are currently open with low flow. Waterway flows and water levels are expected to increase as this storm proceeds. People should take extra caution and avoid rivers, lakes, ditches, streams and ponds. Flowing water and standing water can be extremely hazardous. A combination of slippery banks, melting snow and cold water is particularly dangerous.
