Slight Increase In Windsor's Unemployment Rate

Statistics Canada's latest Labour Force Survey says Windsor's unemployment rate increased slightly last month from January.

It says it was 4.9%, up 0.3%.

Labour participation has remained virtually the same since a year ago. The monthly report says 59.3% of Windsor residents are either employed or looking for work. In February 2017, it was 59.2%.

London's jobless rate was 5.9%, down from 6% posted a month ago.

St. John's, Newfoundland had the highest rate in the country at 8.7%, while Vancouver had the lowest at 3.9%.

The national economy added 15,400 net new jobs in February edging the Canadian unemployment rate down to 5.8% from 5.9% in January. Most of those gains were in part-time work, which offset a drop in full-time jobs, and in public-sector jobs.

So far this year, Statistics Canada says 282,500 positions have been added to the job market.

The Ontario jobless rate remained steady at 5.5%.
