Wind May Cause Dangerous Shoreline Conditions

A flood outlook statement has been issued for the local region due to strong winds over the weekend.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority says winds of 10-20 km/hr and gusts to 25 km/hr are expected Friday night and on Saturday. The wind speeds aren't expected to decrease until Sunday.

Due to the winds, the Lake Erie shoreline in the Municipality of Leamington between Wheatley Harbour and the tip of Point Pelee may experience near shore erosion with wave overtopping and spray. Breakwall damage is also possible.

Local residents are urged to use caution and avoid shoreline areas as overtopping waves can be extremely dangerous.

The flood outlook statement will remain in effect until Monday.
