Leamington Is Getting A New Recreational Facility

The Municipality of Leamington has cleared the way for a new sports dome at the old Queen of Peace Catholic Elementary School.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board says it will enhance sports academy programs.

"We're very grateful that the town's leaders see the benefits of having such a facility in their community," says Director of Education Terry Lyons.

The school board wanted the town to amend a bylaw to reduce the number of parking spaces and adjust the setback at the property on Ellison Ave.

The dome still needs site plan approval.

It will be used by students in the Cardinal Carter Middle School and Secondary School sports academy programs.

The building will be big enough to accommodate two soccer fields, but can also be used for other sports.

The school board hopes to start construction this summer and open it in early 2019.
