Man Charged In Pizzeria Robbery

A man has been arrested in connection with a robbery at a downtown Windsor restaurant.

Windsor police say they were called to the Mario's On Pelissier Sunday morning regarding a report of a robbery. The owners noticed the rear door had been forced open and a cash register was damaged on the floor behind the counter.

Surveillance video posted by the owners show a man trying to jimmy the lock on the machine, then bust it open on the floor. The suspect took an unspecified amount of money and fled.

The time stamp on the video showed the incident occurred early Sunday, moments after staff had locked up for the night.

Police studied the video and were able to identify a suspect. A man was arrested Thursday afternoon on Pelissier St. and Wyandotte St. W, not far from where the incident took place. Police found a gram of suspected fentanyl in his possession.

A 51-year-old Windsor man is charged with break-and-enter and possession of a controlled substance.

Police are still investigating. Anyone with additional information should call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4350, or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
