Windsor's Jobless Rate Jumps In May

The unemployment rate in Windsor went up in May.

The latest employment figures from Statistics Canada were released Friday morning. The jobless rate for Windsor-Essex in May was at 5.9%, up from 5.5% in April.

This also marks an increase from May 2017, when the jobless rate was at 5%.

However, the region's labour force increased slightly from month-to-month, with 175,200 people in May, an increase of 7,000 from April.

Unemployment is also slightly up in Ontario for May, sitting at 5.7%, an increase from 5.6% in April.

Nationwide, the jobless rate held steady at 5.8%

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
