Temporary Home For Central Library Announced

The City of Windsor has announced that the main library branch downtown will be temporarily located at the new city hall.

The city says three floors of new city hall will become a temporary home to the branch while planning for a new Central Branch is done.

The new temporary branch will be open in a year's time.

In February, the Windsor Public Library Board (WPL) announced the sale of the Central Library at 850 Ouellette Ave. to the Downtown Mission with the building scheduled to change hands at the end of June next year.

"The city hall campus location,” says City of Windsor Mayor and WPL Board Chair, Drew Dilkens6, “will provide the appropriate time to properly research, review and ultimately select an optimum site for a permanent downtown WPL Central Library.”

“The key to making this transition successful,” says WPL CEO Kitty Pope “is patience, flexibility and communication. We are thrilled to be moving to the downtown core, and look forward to welcoming the community to the new City Hall Branch.”
