Marina Clemens Gets Her Way

A tireless advocate of Ford City has been honoured with her very own street sign at Drouillard Rd. and Richmond St.

The city unveiled Marina Clemens Way on Thursday to pay tribute to the retired executive director of Drouillard Place, who served in that position for 38 years.

Clemens says it's been a joy and a blessing and she is thrilled.

"We have so many good partners and it's really come together. The BIA, a strong residents' group and that has made it easier to walk away," says Clemens.

Drouillard Place has grown over the years to offer after-school and summer programs, counselling, support programs, neighbourhood renewal projects and an early childhood centre.

Clemens says the Ford City neighbourhood is on the upswing.

"People feel safe, they feel secure now and that's huge when you're developing a neighbourhood. So, we're nothing but on a roll of really good things to come in the next couple of years," she says.

Clemens says she's glad she accepted the call of a local parish priest almost 40 years ago and started the community outreach centre.

"That's always been a driving force for me when you have that kind of community and neighbourhood that cares for one another. It's easy to bring people together," Clemens says.
