UPDATE: Doctor Facing Child Pornography Charges

An investigation by LaSalle police and the OPP has led to child pornography charges against a LaSalle doctor.

Police searched a home on Thursday after a seven-month investigation. They seized several computer devices, according to LaSalle Police Senior Constable Harbinder Gill.

Dr. Ashim Verma, 34, is charged with one count of making available child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography. He was released from custody after a bail hearing. Police say his arrest is the culmination of an investigation involving LaSalle police, the Ontario Provincial Police Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, and the OPP Digital Forensics Unit.

The investigation is continuing.

Windsor Regional Hospital confirms that Verma has been on their medical staff since October 2017 as an interventional cardiologist. The hospital says before he was granted privileges a criminal record check was completed, which included a Vulnerable Sector Search.

The hospital says Verma will not exercise his privileges there while the investigation continues.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call LaSalle police at (519) 969-5210.
