Windsor Man Charged With Car Theft, Impaired Driving

An 18-year-old Windsor man is facing multiple charges after a stolen car crashed and caught fire early Monday morning.

Windsor police say officers were sent around 1:45am to Mulberry Dr. and Robinet Rd. in the Forest Glade neighbourhood. When they got there, Windsor fire crews were was fighting a house blaze. Police soon determined that a vehicle hit a parked car, then went off the roadway before hitting a tree and a fence. The car burst into flames which spread to the house.

Constable Andy Drouillard says the driver was arrested and charged with impaired driving, exceeding 80 mg of blood alcohol, motor vehicle theft, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Drouillard says the suspect was able to access the vehicle because someone had left a spare key in it. Police remind residents to make sure they lock their vehicles and put valuables out of sight while parking, and never leave extra keys inside.
