Watch Out For Students Warn OPP

"Be careful on the roads during school hours"

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex County is warning drivers to pay attention on local roads in preparation for the upcoming school year.

A new school year starts on Tuesday and police say drivers will see a noticeable influx in pedestrian traffic on and near the roads throughout Essex County. The OPP say officers will focus heavily on the safe operation of motor vehicles in and around area schools leading up to and especially during the first week of school. They say drivers will notice an increased police presence in communities with a zero tolerance towards excessive speed, aggressive, distractive and impaired driving.

The public is encouraged to assist police in identifying those drivers operating in a dangerous manner by contacting the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or 911 in an emergency situation.
