Amherstburg officer hit by vehicle

An Amherstburg police officer is counting his blessings after a scary Labour Day incident.

It happened around 2 a.m. Monday on Alma St. near Concession Rd. 5. The officer was standing next to his police cruiser conducting an investigation when he was hit by a silver Nissan Sentra.

The officer, who has not been identified, is in stable condition at a local hospital. He suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Collision reconstruction investigators were on scene for several hours to determine exactly how the crash happened. Alma St. between Concession Rds. 5 North and South were closed for several hours. The road has since been reopened.

More details will be passed along as they become available.
