Amherstburg officer hit by vehicle

An Amherstburg police officer is counting his blessings after a scary Labour Day incident.

It happened around 2 a.m. Monday on Alma St. near Concession Rd. 5. The officer was standing next to his police cruiser conducting an investigation when he was hit by a silver Nissan Sentra.

The officer, who has not been identified, is in stable condition at a local hospital. He suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Collision reconstruction investigators were on scene for several hours to determine exactly how the crash happened. Alma St. between Concession Rds. 5 North and South were closed for several hours. The road has since been reopened.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
