Lasalle is gushing after buying new waterfront property

LaSalle has bought some new waterfront property.

The town said a stretch along Front Road, north of Gil Maure Park at Westport Marina became available and council pounced on it. LaSalle will take possession of the land October 31, 2019.

"We have been hearing for years that the municipality has not taken advantage of the waterfront in LaSalle along the Detroit River," said Mayor Ken Antaya. "This is the first time that a large piece of property near the park has become available and we reacted. This is a very integral land acquisition for the future of our community with the intent of refreshing our historic LaSalle neighbourhood."

The municipality said the next council would seek input from the community for the development of this land. Plans are in place to complete a master plan for the area, and that will include public consultation.

"I am confident that the purchase of this land will enhance the commerce of Highway 18 and the vibrancy of our waterfront," said Mayor Antaya.

The land's price tag has not been revealed.
