Distracted driving tickets issued by Essex County OPP

There are more charges resulting from the newest provincial police (OPP) initiative aimed at stopping distracted driving in Essex County.

Police said 23 distracted driving charges were laid on Wednesday in under five hours in Tecumseh, and six tickets were issued for distracted driving within a one hour period Tuesday morning.

Operation Stop Texting And Travel Safely (STATS) continues until next month and police said there will be zero tolerance. They are asking drivers to put down the phone.

The initiative started on Monday.
