Spits clinch OT winner in season opener against the Storm

The Windsor Spitfires opened the regular season with a 4-3 overtime win against the Guelph Storm on Thursday.

After a scoreless first period, Lev Starikov scored early in the second to give Windsor the lead, but the Storm added one of their own just after the 12-minute mark to tie the game.  Mathew MacDougall regained the lead for the Spitfires with a goal less than a minute later.

Guelph fought back to take the advantage by scoring two back-to-back goals in the first half of the third, however, Will Cuylle scored 13:14 into the final frame to force OT.

Luke Kutkevicius scored the game-winning goal for Windsor 2:03 into extra time.

Spitfires goaltender Kari Piiroinen made 43 saves out of 46 shots on net.

The Spitfires will now head to London to face off against the Knights on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
