University of Windsor to invest $1.5-million into mental health

The University of Windsor is launching a new mental health strategy for its students.

A crowd of students came out to hear the announcement Wednesday during the university's first Campus Mental Health Day.

After three years of consultation by a committee co-chaired by Interim President, Douglas Kneale the university announced it would invest $1.5-million over the next five years into initiatives that support and improve mental health supports.

The funding will support two new full-time positions and resources for a wellness fund.

"Our purpose in this strategy is to foster a thriving university community that actively promotes mental well-being and supports students to flourish both in their personal and academic lives," said Dr Kneale.

The university also committed to improving its existing counselling services for students who are struggling.
