Habitat for Humanity able to replace tools taken in three break-ins

Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex is thanking the public for its support after three break-ins within a few days last month.

The first break-in was on September 3 when someone forced their way into the property and took a power tool. Not long after, power tools were taken in a second break-in, and in the third, thieves not only took tools, they took a truck full of tools from the yard.

Within three hours, Habitat said their story was shared 9,000 times on social media.

The truck was found soon after, but the tools are still missing. Since then, donations totalling over $25,000 have come in, and Habitat for Humanity has been able to replace all the tools taken in the break-ins.

"Now we are moving forward towards our next home build with the confidence that our community will not be stopped by a few bad pumpkins," read a release from the charitable organization.

Habitat for Humanity said police continue to work the case, and thanks to tips from the public, investigators believe they have some strong leads.
