Old Windsor jail is up for sale

The Ontario government has put the former Windsor jail on the market.

The building, built in 1925, has been vacant since 2014. Soon after that, the Southwest Detention Centre opened in the south end of the city.

All 33,000 square feet of the building on Brock Street, as well as the land, is available immediately.

The price is very affordable. Infrastructure Ontario, which is listed as the selling party, is only asking for a dollar.  It listed the property on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services.

The property is considered of historical significance to Sandwich Towne, the surrounding neighbourhood. It was listed within the Sandwich Heritage Conservation District in 2012.

CBRE is the listed realtor and bids are open for 30 days.
