Pelee Islander II getting ready to set sail in May

The company that operates the ferry service to Pelee Island said it plans to continue Pelee Islander II sea trials next week.

The Owen Sound Transportation Company (OSTC) said the trials are to gain experience in manoeuvring the vessel in winds that vary in speed and direction, which are typically found in the fall. OSTC added that these cargo only training sailings will also allow the crew to become more familiar with vehicle loading and unloading procedures on the new vessel.

The operator said regular ferry service to Pelee Island will continue with the Jiimaan at the same time that the sea trials are performed.

The Owen Sound Transportation Company said the Pelee Islander II will begin ferry service in May. The Pelee Islander II was originally expected to go into service this year after arriving June 15.
