Santa’s school bus ready to roll

It will be a very merry Christmas for those in need thanks to the generosity of several local schools.

Over the past month, students from nine local schools have been collecting toy and food donations for their Santa’s School Bus Toy Drive.

On Wednesday, the donations were loaded into two school buses by the students at Saint James Catholic School, with the help of the Windsor Police Service.

"It's a good teachable moment. It's a good learning opportunity for kids to see that this something that's really important, they need to be able to reach out and help people who are struggling this time of year and throughout the entire year," said Stephen Fields, communications coordinator for the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board.

This is the fifth year that the schools have put on the drive. Once in the bus, the donations get delivered to local charities including the Children's Aid Society and Advocating Young Minds.
