Fire damages portable classroom at Northwood School

Windsor Fire and Rescue was on scene Sunday night of a fire at Northwood Public School on the south side.

Crews were first alerted to the situation around 9 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, flames and smoke were seen toward the rear of the campus. It turned out that the fire affected one of the portable classrooms.

Damage was confined to that classroom though there is no word on a damage estimate. Greater Essex County District School Board spokesman Scott Scantlebury told BlackburnNewsWindsor.com late Sunday night that it was not immediately clear which classes were affected, though any classes that are displaced will be temporarily housed in the main school building.

Classes at Northwood will be held Monday as usual. This was confirmed via a tweet by Northwood principal Rob Romano.

The investigation is ongoing and further details will be passed along as they become available.
