Accused Ganatchio Trail attacker charged with second degree murder

A Windsor man charged in connection with a fatal attack on the Ganatchio Trail over a year ago is now charged with second degree murder.

Windsor police said the victim, 76-year-old Sarah Anne Widholm, died of her injuries in the hospital on Sunday. Widholm was walking along the trail east of Little River Road and Riverdale Avenue in October of 2017 when she was viciously beaten, leaving her with severe head injuries.

Habibullah Ahmadi, 21, of Windsor was originally charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder.

The investigation is ongoing.
