Riverside Drive East to reopen Saturday

East Windsor commuters are getting an early Christmas present from the city.

Riverside Drive East between Lauzon Road and the Solidarity Towers will completely re-open to traffic on Saturday. That stretch of the drive had been closed for the latter half of the year due to the Riverside Vista improvement project. In addition to vehicular traffic, Transit Windsor buses will resume use of that route.

While access to businesses was maintained during that time, traffic had been diverted off the Drive-in that area. City engineer Mark Winterton told BlackburnNewsWindsor.com in June that that portion of the Drive will look very different.

“The project is fairly significant for us. The contract is about $6.3-million,” said Winterton. “Full relocation of utilities, new sewers and water mains, a rebuild of the road which include barrier curbs as opposed to the existing mountable curb and a new bike lane.”

The Riverside Vista project will resume in spring 2019.
